I'm thrilled to announce that I'm publishing my next book as an ebook--and I'm going to take YOU along on the adventure.
Ebooks are so new and changing every week (hey, who even knows if it's "e-book" or "ebook"?). I've been in publishing for many years but this is a total game changer.
I weighed the pros and cons of publishing an ebook versus my other options (which are trying to find a traditional publisher or an agent or self publishing a traditional book).
Pro: My book gets out there immediately and at a pretty low cost.
Con: Not as many people have Kindles, iPads, or other e-readers.
When I looked at many more pros and cons, I decided for me and for this book that the advantages of ebooks outweigh the disadvantages. (And if I sell a million copies, maybe a traditional publisher will pick it up.)
I'll publish through BookBaby and will blog about the adventure--what I'm learning along the way that will help you decide how to publish your book, too.
Disclosure: BookBaby is giving me an upgraded account in exchange for reviewing their services on my blog. They know--and I want you to know--that I’ll give you an unbiased review. (And they know--and I want you to know--that if service is bad, of course I’m not going to publish my book with them!)
Here's my goal:
To get my ebook formatted, published, and available on iPad, Kindle, Nook, and Sony Reader by the end of next month in time for holiday sales. That's 60 days from today.
Yes, you can publish ebooks that fast (actually in about 2 weeks)--first thing I learned about ebooks.
Of course, there is that minor point that you have to write your book first. Mine is written--and I'll tell you more about it in my next post.
If you don't already subscribe to this blog, please do so that you don't miss any of my upcoming hopefully helpful posts about digital publishing. Just click "get email updates" in the upper left corner (or here if you're reading this by email).
Meanwhile, if I can help you write your book--the one inside you trying to get out--just let me know (diana@peapodpublishing.com).
