We're 1 week into our Indiegogo campaign to raise funds to publish 2 more books in the Adventures With PawPaw children's book series! I promised to tell you what we're learning in the process in case you want to crowdfund your next publishing project.
Tip #1: Do your homework. I spent literally days studying Indiegogo's FAQ, reading campaigns that were successfully funded and ones that weren't. It's so not a matter of just throwing a bunch of ideas together and expecting the world to fund your idea. (Don't we wish?)
Here are some of the things I learned from reading Indiegogo's FAQs:
Campaigns that use a pitch video raise 115% more money than campaigns that use only a pitch image.
So illustrator Leah Wiedemer and I created a short video featuring PawPaw himself, which you can see here:
Kudos to Leah for a great job putting this all together!
Are we professional filmmakers? Hardly! But it doesn't matter. I don't think crowdfunders care if it's professional or not. It needs to tell your story and hopefully ours does -- and hopefully yours will too!
BTW, we don't like when people steal our copyrighted intellectual property, so we don't steal either! Leah used royalty-free and copyright-free music in our video, which you can find all over YouTube. Just google "YouTube" and "royalty-free music" or "copyright-free music."
Between now and when our campaign ends on October 9, I'll share more tips with you that we incorporated into our campaign. Hopefully they'll help you.
Meanwhile, we could use your help!
If you like our idea of changing the world through children's books, would you:
1. Share the link to our campaign with your Facebook and Twitter pals. Here's the link:
Toward the top of our campaign page, you'll find buttons to post on Facebook, tweet, embed, and email about the campaign.
2. Throw a few dollars into the crowdfunding pot. We'd be thrilled to have you join our team! PawPaw has lots of great perks for everyone who gives. In fact, everyone who gives $25 or more gets a set of the 1st 3 books in the Adventures With PawPaw series -- signed by Leah and me. (If we could figure out how to get PawPaw to hold a Sharpie, he'd sign them too.) And there are lots more perks including free coaching time with Leah and me.
Thanks for your crowdfunding help...and stay tuned for another tip in a few days!
